My service to the community began during Brevard's Focus 20/20 process. A long term visioning process that engaged the community in planning for it's future.Issues concerning natural resources, transportation, land use planning, cultural, educational, recreational, public safety and health needs gave me some understanding of the challenges facing our community and a desire to work to implement solutions.
After serving for 6+ years on Brevard's planning board, I was honored to be elected to serve the citizens of Brevard for the past 4 years on the city council. During this time I gained an understanding of the bigger picture, that Brevard, Rosman and the Board of Education must work hand in hand with Transylvania County Citizens and its' government as we move forward.
Major decisions concerning future growth planning, infrastructure expansion and investments in education will be facing the commission in the next few years. What decisions are made, thru consensus building and community input, will shape what Transylvania County becomes.
I want to be your voice in that process. With an upcoming reevaluation, will we make prudent investements for our county's long term benefit? With our actions, will we preserve a natural environment blessed with unparalleled beauty or destroy those resources that are our children's inheritance? Will we continue to support an exemplary educational system? Working to develop lifelong learners and to put our young people on a pathway to becoming productive citizens of Transylvania County? What opportunities will we create for our children?
Job Creation and retention, small business opportunities, affordable workforce housing are all areas that need our intentional, focused attention in the near future.
Quality of Life issues, environmental, safety and cultural amenities that make us the envy of small communities across the country are at stake.
We must act in ways that not only protect but encourage and enhance those qualities of Transylvania County that we cherish.
